Selling Some Stuff: Like My Soul
So in preparation for what seems like an inevitable move, we are trying to declutter, throw out, freecycle and sell whatever we aren’t using. Starting with the baby clothes from 12 years of babies! haha.
So I decided to make three piles: sell it, give it away or pitch it. Well the ‘pitch it’ pile is in the garbage can. I also have a very VERY tiny “keep it” pile for an extremely select few things I want to hang onto for posterity.
The thing is…..this is tons of work! Now I remember why we threw out so much and just packed the rest when we moved 18 months ago. Who has time….or space…to go through stuff like this? I intended to do nice little lots separated by gender, size and season. But ugh. This seems so overwhelming. That means sorting, washing, going through and taking tons and tons of pictures, listing in a visually appealing way (which, lets face it, for me would take a week alone) and then waiting for the auction to end, and then packing it all up and actually making it to the post office. I am totally overwhelmed even thinking about it. Oh and also? You can’t ebay off-season clothes. They just don’t sell. So that means packing up all the fall clothes and hauling them off with the rest of our “for keeps” stuff when we move on the off chance that, come mid-summer, I’ll be prepared to ebay all over again.
What I’m good at is BUYING off ebay. Not so much the selling.
But then remember this entry about what I coveted more than anything? Well I finally found this very item on ebay and managed to procure the item and she wore it in Vietnam precisely one time. And also? It wasn’t REALLY her color. But whenever I think of throwing in the towel on the whole “selling on ebay” idea, I do a quick search for this exact dress and see that - WHAT? It is selling for over $100?? Shut UP! Don’t believe me? See this?
And so I plug on. What I really want to be doing right now is sewing or making a hat. Instead what I am doing is blogging about all the projects I should be doing right now but just can’t bring myself to complete. Productivity, NOT my strong point!
One more thing. I know that 12 years of baby stuff MUST be parted with but really what needs to go is my husband’s books. The ones with titles like “Host Integrity Monitoring’ and ‘Succeeding with Open Source’.
However? He can keep the one called “Leadership Mastery in Turbulent Times” and also maybe the one called “Disaster Recovery: Preparing for the Unthinkable”.

I hate going through all my kids’ clothes, too. That’s why I have an entire closet full of clothes in tons of Rubbermaids! LOL
BTW, if Tony has any titles on Joomla or Drupal, I’d *love* to free up some space on your shelf.

Good job getting a jump on sorting through your stuff… you will be so glad you did that if you move (and even if you don’t!) I’m lucky if I can get the kids’ clothes into rubbermaid tubs in the garage… sorting and ebaying would be a real achievement. But then $100 is great incentive… !
