Spring Break: The Highs & Lows
The kids boarded a plane to head back to Michigan this morning, drawing a conclusion to Spring Break 2007. It was a fun week, a long week. We got a lot in but there is still a lot to look forward to this summer. We managed to find a pretty good balance between lazing around, settling in and unpacking and getting out and about without breaking the bank.
Highlights:
I’m sure each of the kids has their own highlights list but this is mine, personally….
- watching the kids swim when it was 44 degrees outside. This so reminded me of my own childhood!
- watching Ethan master his bike, his scooter and swimming in the deep end.
- Watching Paige make friends with the girl up the street who may as well be her twin sister, for all they have in common.
- when, during a game of Beat the Parents, Jordan answered that a Russian astronaut is called an ‘astronaught’ with a long drawn out last syllable that rhymes with ‘bought’. This has quickly become the new family joke!
- Galveston. Everything about it.
- Earth Day festival. It was freezing but we ended up staying 2 hours longer than we planned because it was so fun and educational. I could make a whole highlights list just from the festival!
- Our board and card game marathons
Low Lights:
- $70 for bowling. One game for the family. Seriously. When did bowling become so expensive?!?!
- The freezing days - THREE of them which, incidentally, is THREE more than we’ve had since I got here almost 2 months ago!!
- driving through downtown Houston. I may never leave the Woodlands again!
- the week coming to an end.
The week was a lot of fun but it totally blows that the kids are half way to Michigan and we won’t see them again for several weeks. Meanwhile we’ve made memories for a lifetime.

What a wonderful spring break! I am so happy everyone enjoyed themselves!!
I’m sure you’ll get used to the Huston traffic (should you ever need to go there again LOL)
Yikes about the bowling, I thought it was the smokey alleys keeping me away, now I have another excuse!

Sounds like a great spring break. Our bowling is crazy expensive too. And forget ordering food - SO overpriced.
Glad all the kids had fun!

Bowling is FUN! But $70 for that fun? Yipes! My BIL wants to open a bowling alley (LOL) and I hope he does!
My god I miss you! Big time!

Hey Nikki, drop me an email, we miss you over on the list and I have been thinking a lot about you lately and would love to know how things are going with the super seven, especially on the SM front.

Hi.
July 9th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
I would like to add the following highlights:
*Our “codeword” for bottle, which, being the word kolache, made Addison want a kolache and start screaming for a kolache.:P
*The kolaches! I have never been in love with a food before, and as a matter of fact, I don’t think anyone ever has, but THERE IS A FIRST FOR EVERYTHING!:P
*The BMX park, where, thank god for motorcycle helmets, (and the fact that Jordan talked you into buying him one :P) Jordan flipped and slammed his face -sorry, the visor of his helmet-(:P) into the ground and everyone else kept falling off too.
* The playground right next to the BMX park where Ethan went on the monkey bars over and over and over and over and over. And over. And over. And over. And you get the picture.
And the following lowlights:
*Me, Dalton and Jordan almost getting sweeped off to sea via GULF OF MEXICO!:P (B.T.W:My eyes still sting from the seawater! FEAR IIIIT!!! :P)
*Teegan sticking his finger into my crawfish and saying “Ooh, I can feel its innards! And all four of its hearts are still beating!” Thus making me lose my appetite for crawfish and making me eat my daddy’s onion rings out of PURE COLD BLOOD-I mean-PURE STARVATION!
*The first arrival- “Buca di beppo and into the pool we go!” (My new catch phrase :P)
