Super Man

Biker BobI interrupt this week of reflection to bring an unscheduled announcement…

My Daddy is a cyclist. I remember him riding his bike to work when he lived and worked in Michigan while I grew up but that was for fun. I thought he was nuts even then. But now, he’s a real cyclist. He rides through the Rockies and other insane places that I won’t even drive a car. Clearly he did not pass along his good “exercise” genes. He is in his 60’s and has the energy and endurance of a really healthy 20 year old. I wish I could say the same for myself!

At some point my Dad became inspired to ride from his home near Denver to his summer cabin up north in Michigan. Ride. His Bike. By himself. 1400 Miles. On a *bicycle* with two wheels that you have to pedal all those miles.

He was supposed to leave on or around June 1 but he called yesterday to say he saw his window and took it leaving on May 29 instead. yesterday he completed day 2 of his projected 21 day journey. He rode a combined total of 126 miles in two days all in a direct unrelenting headwind.

I am helping him keep a blog of his journey. I hope you’ll click on over and check out the updates. There are google maps you can follow along on and daily updates of his progress.

He’s also raising money for his local Habitat for Humanity because riding 1400 miles alone on a bicycle was not enough. haha. There are links on his blog that you can click on over to donate to the Blue Spruce Habitat. Please do, for my Daddy.

So while you are out taking a family walk or snuggled in to bed at night, think of my Dad. Prayers for a safe and exciting journey are what he’d appreciate most. Then click on over and see how things are going for him.

Criminy! That is a lot of pedaling! Good for him. I’ve just made a donation. Love HFH! jake might be doing some volunteer work for them this summer.

Oh, and if you find that gene within you somewhere, please shake it in this direction.

Wow, that is so impressive!!! My dad is in super good shape too - he’s running a 1/2 marathon in June. I can’t even make myself work out for 30 minutes a day!

Good Golly that is a lot of ridin’!!! Go daddy go! This reminded me of my dad - he loves to travel across the country alone and sleep under the stars at night. BUT - on a bike? HA! I will have to nag him that there is a crazier vagabond daddy out there than he! LOL

GRANDPA BOB DID THAT? Whoa. That’s kind of scary. All the way to the up north cabin. 1400 miles. Whoa. I can’t cycle that far. Ever. How is he doing that? He has to stop at fast-food places or something, doesn’t he? He can’t got that long without eating. That is so cool. Peace!
