Blueberry Picking (photo heavy)

berries in various states of ripenessToday we went blueberry picking for the first time. First let me say that my kids just adore berry-picking. No matter how blazing hot it is outside and how completely desolate the berry patch is, they find personal challenge in this persuit.

We found this blueberry farm near us with organic berries. They’ve been around for 30 years and they have a few dozen varieties of blueberries so they have picking for months! They even allow you to eat the berries right off the bush. And they sell ‘em for $1.25/pound which is an amazing bargain around here.

We went last night, right before bed to avoid the heat. The timing was perfect, it dropped 10 degrees just during our short drive to the farm. On the way we had a mama pig and her half dozen tiny piglets cross the dirt road in front of us. I wish we had a picture! Noah slept right through it and it is all he’s talked about since. I’m not sure if they were farm pigs or wild pigs but my guess is they were wild. Pretty cool!

Ok, ok. Onto the pictures (click to enlarge):

I love to drop the berries into the bucket!

What? I can eat them too? Hrmmm
yum

Sour!
Sour!

When has that ever stopped me! I think I’ll help myself to more!
Sometimes I put them in the bucket, sometimes I take them out!
And eat!

And look at me! I can pick ‘em too! But I prefer the pretty white and pink ones
I can pick too!

I love this picture of Addy

Whew! I’m beat! I feel like sleeping. Blueberry picking is fun but hard work!

First of all, I loved the photos! Second, thanks for bringing up fond memories for me. My three siblings and I used to pick blackberries like crazy when we were kids. My mom would make blackberry pie, cobbler, jelly, etc., then would finally beg us to quit picking them. Oh, good times!!

I love blueberries. Haven’t ever gone picking but we have a couple of bushes and hopefully this year we’ll get more than a handful of berries. Those pictures are great - Addy is so adorable!!
