Redesign
Ok, I am serious about this. I need to redesign my blog template. This is important…it IS! It is important because, until I get a template I love it will consume many hours of my days while I tinker with templates I hate trying to make them into templates I love.
Problem is I have no graphical eye at all. None. I don’t know what I want. The other day I spent like 4 hours just researching color schemes and STILL have no idea what I want even THERE!
What I do know is that I want the theme/template to match the name of my blog: Stepping On Legos
So toss me your ideas or links (to templates, to other websites you love, etc). Help. Seriously. I have even, for the first time EVER in my life, considering hiring someone to do this for me. So if that is you and you know EXACTLY WHAT you would do to make my blog reflect it’s name, tell me how much!
I need to stop this obsession and, like when you get a few lyrics of a song stuck in your brain, the only way I will stop is if I can complete the project.
And also? Did I mention a prize? I will send something wonderful, not sure what yet, but it will be great
for the person whose idea inspires me to a finished product. So c’mon - you know you’d like a prize!

nicki,
i really like the design on this blog:
http://www.fullyoperationalbattlestation.com.
i think it’s well-designed and her theme (her husband is in military) works. i love the photo-booth photo strip on the side of homepage. she had a post a while back about her blog-designer. i didn’t even know those existed - -but of course they do! this is america! why do it yourself when you can pay someone else to do it for you??
you could also use your lego theme and incorporate a lego-design for the subject areas on the left. just thinking online here but i would try to incorporate your blog name with the design in a clever way. okay, those are my 2 cents.

I think you need to give yourself more credit. It’s easy to get frustrated, I too have spent many hours and walked away feeling like I didn’t get anywhere. I have been impressed with your site and really like the rotating photo’s.
Now, if you are getting bored or want a change, spruce things up a bit. Try to break it down into sections, basically you have a heading, left menu and a content area. I think you need some fun (brighter) colors to go with your personality and to match the name. What don’t you like about your current template?

What I love about my current template: the rotating picture in the header, the rounded corners, the fluid width
What I don’t love: almost everything else. The colors, the CSS.
I could give or take 3 columns, I think I’m fine with 2 right now.

I would think that your blog would want to be Lego colors and kind of blocky with dots. Like a lego.
