Great post! I agree with everything you said, and those are all reasons Montessori works so well for my kids. I admire those who homeschool well, I know that I am not cut out for it. But clearly your children are thriving and learning, very cool!

Really interesting post. I love hearing about your experience homeschooling. My mom just decided to homeschool one of my siblings who really needs some a little more than the public school system could provide. She's so excited about a lot of the same things you mentioned.

Ahh, we are gearing up for our home school year to start. I wish we had as much flexibility as you do, but with using a charter school, well, we don't. I would love to just abandon the virtual charter, but they use the curriculum I love and it would cost too much to buy it on my own. I need to find some kind of part-time, at-home work just so I can buy it. Think I could find an agent for Blue Barb?

Hi Nicki! Your family's home school experience sounds wonderful! Home schooling my child won't be an option for me, but I understand your frustrations with the public school system. My parents enrolled me in school early with controversy as well. They were then convinced to hold me back for "social reasons" in the second grade. So, the start of the next year, I was in the second grade again except for reading and math, where I traveled to the third grade because I was too advanced for second grade. After a month, I was in the third grade for everything except lunch! I was miserable with no friends from all the back and forth! By the end of the first quarter, I was moved completely into the third grade. It was a mess of a year. I congratulate you on doing what is right for each of your children whether it is home schooling or whatever educational system that will work best for them!

One of the things that has always amazed me about your blog is how in tune you are with your children and their needs. It's been awesome to read about.

Bravo!

What a wonderful commentary on what works for your children as well as so many children across the world.

Although my daughter enjoys a Montessori preschool a few hours a day we do not plan to enroll her in any public or private schooling once she turns five when our homeschool journey will become official (I personally believe it begins at birth)!

Nicki,

I decided to check out your blog after reading your comment on mine. I applaud your decision to home school as well as embracing vegetarianism.

I think home schooling can be hugely beneficial when parents are able to structure their child's learning to meet individual needs and interests.

I enjoyed reading your views.
