If I have to buy panties, I may cry

I can’t wait to see what kind of hits this blog entry gets, on the title alone!

Addy has insisted we take off her diaper, saying she had to go potty, twice now, and ran to her potty to pee. Twice now. I wasn’t going to mention it the first time because I thought it was a fluke even though it was pretty obvious. And then it happened again.

And now she refuses to let me put a diaper on her at all. R.E.F.U.S.E.S. And half the time she refuses clothes but at least sometimes she’ll acquiesce on the clothing but the diaper is a no-go.

Which is not to say she’s potty-trained. Not at all. But she’s all “Potty train me, mommy” and I’m all “Um, really? Are you sure? Because I thought we had another good year or so and I’m sort of busy with the start of a new homeschool year and decorating your bedroom and, you know, other stuff.”. And she’s like “No, potty train me, mommy. Now. My life revolves around it and I can think of nothing else.”.

I do the obligatory “Do you need to sit on the potty?” all day long like I did with my other kids which ALWAYS results in an adamant ‘yes’ and a quick sit on her tiny potty and then Addy bends waaaaay over practically kissing the plasticy porcelain looking to see if there is any peepee or poopoo and declares “No” while shaking her head in a sort of resigned way, does the cutest little shrug, shuts the lid and moves on. She won’t preform on command which, yeah, that’s how she is in all areas. Both potty successes were initiated by Miss Addison. Never has she gone when it is MY idea. Whatever.

But I know she’s totally ready which may sound weird but she has every single sign of readiness and a huge interest. I think if I had the time to actually follow her around all day watching for cues (becuase she has this whole repertoire she goes through before she pees) then she’d be trained in 24 hours. I may just do that this weekend and get it over with. On account of my hatred for diapers. Or not becuase I hate potty training, too, in case you haven’t picked up on that theme.

But bottom line - they do not make size 6 month panties. What’s a girl to do? Addison can’t be the only baby who has ever suffered this dilemma. There are other tiny-waisted girls in the world. What do they do for underwear?

LOL! Are you sure that you are not talking about my little Sophia? Same thing….she trained herself in a week. We never got out of #3 diapers. She also love to run around nakie! I would try the Gymboree panties. They worked great on my niece who still has no tushie. They also are working for Fe Fe (as Sophia has named herself).

Can you please send her to hang out with L. and maybe it will rub off on him! THat is pretty cool–I would say 24 hrs. is worth it to dedicate to the task. I was lucky with M.–went away for the weekend and my mom did it while we were gone. No accidents or anything. Good luck!

Well, I guess she could just go commando!! No advice since my girl has always been in the 75th percentile for weight so panties fit just fine. She poop trained at 20 months but pee pee training took a few more months..I know opposite girl but hey, I loved not changing poopy diapers! Good luck!

Totally not fair. Kinhly still like to potty on the potty but only if she says so. Otherwise, she’s totally happy to potty in her undies, or in a diaper. She’s totally a Leo!! Now, on to Addy, buy 2T undies. Kinhly wears 18m pants regularly with 4T undies and they’re pretty tight. I don’t know who was smokin’ crack when they decided to size the underwear but they’re a good 1-2 sizes off.

Wow is she starting young! R~ was definitely ready to train before I was ready to start - right when we put our house on the market. I was SO not in the mood to deal with all the accidents and running to the bathroom then! But she was ready! So hooray for Addy. :) About the panties… hmmm… darn good question! I think Target goes as small as 2T but that’s about it. sorry, I’m no help!

You might as well give it a try if she’s acting ready…..I’m soooo glad that Khoa was already potty trained when we brought him home. I don’t miss that little task AT ALL! So does she also want to help empty the potty when she’s done??? Oh the fun you are about to have ……

Why can’t kids be on our timeframe?!? How Rude!! :-)

    7. Kelly Says:

I CANNOT believe that Addy wants to potty in the potty already. She is still a baby! Go for it this weekend though, and then teach me how to do this someday.

I have seen this topic before on various IA groups. Some say Disney, Hanna Anderson, and Hanes Too brands come really small. However, you could just take a small dart in the elastic of the waistbands of your (or her) brand. You can cut the excess away, or leave it to take out the stitching later when she gets bigger.

I had the same problem with undies with Alex. Hanna Andersson worked best. Yay Addy!

Amazing, I bet she will potty train so easily! I truly dread the thought of potty training Grace.

You’ve got quite the girl there, Nicki. I also say go for it this weekend and let us all know how things turn out. I’m thinking that when Addy Mai makes her mind up about something, that’s how it’s going to be. Yay, Addy!!

Fun times! I had/have the same problem with Parker who potty-trained himself just after turning two and is so narrow that at 3+ he’s still wearing some 6-12 month shorts! I finally did find Gerber training pants type undies in 18-24 months, or maybe it was 12-18 months. Anyway, look in the onesie/training-pant section of Target - you might be able to find something in smaller sizes. I know Gymboree and the character undies don’t start until at least size 2/3. Good luck!

Hi I have just discovered your blog and love it. Also, in a wonderful coincidence I also just discovered that I amalso using VORF to adopt from. I should be traveling within 2 - 3 weeks. I can’t tell you how great reading this has been–for information but also for verbalizing the emotions we are going through. And of course Addison is great to watch.

What an oddity that I happened upon your blog today! Sienna (16 mo) has recently been taking off her diaper after pottying in it. She has a potty chair (no luck there yet), but today I went to Baby’s R Us today and bought 3-6 month plastic panties to go over the 24mo gerber underwear I bought and cut/sewed down to size. She is only 16.5 lbs and that was the only thing I could think of!
