The costume that won’t be
I finally got Addy’s halloween costume in the mail the other day and I am not crazy about it. I just can’t find something I love. I know its dumb, it is only Halloween but we are big into Halloween and I usually make my kids costumes and we make a big deal out it.
But to make matters worse, my baby girl hates - I mean HATES - her Halloween Costume. This is the girl who loves to dress up, who loves to accessorize. I thought it would be right up her ally. But no way - she hates it. We had it for days trying to convince her to at least try it on before finally just forcing her into it to at least see if it would fit and if maybe she’d get over her angst once she saw how cute she was.
Well she loved how cute she was in the mirror but that changed nothing. She would love, maybe, to see ANOTHER kid wear it. Just not her!!! Never mind that we could NOT get her into the tights or the cute little antennae - both of which really make the costume. Forget about it. She wanted that thing off and there is no way we’ll get her back in it.
So up on eBay it will go and back to the drawing board for me. I think I’m going to have to make what I want but first I’ll have to figure out what I want!!! I have scoured the ‘net looking at costumes and just can’t find anything that says “Addison”.

You are miles ahead of me in the costume department!! I have no idea what my kids will be dressing as this year… Zeeb will probably choose Superman because that’s his dress-up of choice. But the others? no idea.
What’s Addy’s favorite TV or movie character? Or favorite food? Or animal? R~ was a lion last year and she loved that because she’s all about lions. And a couple of years ago she was Dora. I like picking things they’re into because it helps me remember what they liked when they were younger.

ps… she’s totally adorable in that outfit! Too bad she won’t wear that one. But whatever she wears, I know she’ll totally rock it.

you are ahead of me too.
my kids are past the cute-stage and now pick their own costumes. but… i remember the baby age and i loved halloween costume shopping back then.
go for a tom arma costume if you can find one. keaton wore the skunk his first year and i’ve never seen a cuter costume! i sold mine on ebay the next year and got most my $$ back from it.
children’s place had some cute costumes. i always liked butterfly costumes - google that.
disneystore.com always has some cute stuff too.

I agree with Christina. Go for something she really likes. Or, if there is a halloween store nearby (or even just go to Walmart or Target) take her there to see if anything really catches her eye. You could then buy that costume, or look online for something similar.
I understand your obsession. Halloween is my favorite holiday.

I think she looks adorable! I agree that you should take her with you to see what strikes her interest…that may go a long way towards getting her to wear it. Does she pretend to be any imaginary characters? Princess, puppy etc…

I forced Minnie Mouse on Annslee last year (we borrowed it so it was free) and she refused the ears of course. I took her to the store yesterday and she picked Tinker Bell and has barely taken it off since…so yeah, let her help decide. : )

Ok - I’m not stalking you but I’m obsessed w/Halloween costumes too. LOL Maybe she doesn’t like her costume because she’s just not feeling well and is cranky about it? Maybe wait until she’s feeling better and then she might like it?

On the plus side, I’m not seeing jazz or tap or whatever requires costumes like that type of dance lessons in her near future…… So, save some $ there! Surely some wild jazz mom will snatch your costume right off ebay…
