Newest Obsession

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you might notice that I periodically get completely obsessed with things. First there was various baby girl dresses I absolutely had to have while we waited for our referral. Then there was an obsession with knitting and crafting cute-but-practical things for our future baby girl. Once she was home, there was an obsession with bathing suits, clothes, most recently shoes and now the newest and dare I say the most outlandish of all obsessions:

Sinaeschnidia cancellosa

Meet Sinaeschnidia cancellosa, a 150 million year old dragonfly fossil found in China. And I want him. Bad. I first spotted him at our local Gem & Mineral show last week and only semi-seriously considered taking him home. I asked the fossil dealer if he had any, um, smaller versions of Mr. SinCan and he laughed and said that what he had would be all I could get for, well, pretty much EVER. Dude, that is so not a cool thing to say to someone like me!!! Apparently China is cutting off exports of everything but dinosaur eggs…..everything probably referring to fossils, right? And not the bajillion of recalled toys and cribs and stuff lately, huh? Whatever. I don’t want a dinosaur egg (although I saw one for the first time and oh my gosh, I could possibly want one if this dragonfly thing doesn’t pan out). I want Mr. SinCan.

And can I just say that people routinely buy art for way way way WAY more than Mr. SinCan. And if China is cutting off exports, the value will probably go up exponentially, right? Right?

If you know a guy in fossils, can you please send him my way?

How ’bout I spare you the trouble, and money, and I just smush a dragonfly into a rock for ya?
      Just teasing. It’s lovely…or fascinating…or exotic…or one in a million…or whatever a nice compliment would be to a fossil.
