All About Pee
I think we had our first 100% dry day! There were no accidents and although we slapped on a diaper for the nap & a trip out for dinner, it appears as if the diaper may have been dry after the nap & the dinner too.
This week Addy has been totally consumed with The Potty. Everything revolves around her pee, and I really don’t mean this in a good way. It is exhausting to potty train, how quickly I forgot!!!! There is peeing, then dumping, then washing out the potty, wiping the girl, flushing, waving bye-bye to the pee, returning the potty and of course clapping. Oh the gratuitous clapping!!! Plus the high-fives (Addy calls “high”).
I finally broke down and bought the cushy insert seat for the big potty, so sick am I already of the little one. This was, of course, totally stupid because she can pee just fine in a normal toilet which we learned when we were out last weekend and she needed to pee. Duh. I haven’t done this toddler training thing before, I am still functioning in Big Kid Mode, like I did with my boys, where they could actually get on and off the potty themselves, get their own clothes off, etc.
And Addy spent this entire week peeing what seemed to be essentially non-stop. At one point I started to really consider whether or not she has a health problem, so frequent was her peeing (I’m talking at least every half hour and often much more frequently). So we sent off a culture just to be safe but I think really what’s going on is this girl is DONE with diapers and is extremely excited about peeing. She actually seems to be doing a lot less peeing today, now that the culture is off at the lab. Figures. But on this issue I’d rather be safe than sorry. Just one of the things I really did not have to think much about with my boy-children.
Meanwhile the diapers are strictly a parental crutch. We use them when we go out but she still asks to go to the potty which then involves taking off her diaper so she can pee in the public potties and then replacing it. So it’s sort of dumb. She will still pee in her diaper if she has to but she isn’t happy about it.
I have no idea how to tackle naps and night times. Advice totally welcome. My boys were much older when they PT’d and in some ways, much easier (older, more rational, better comprehension, more dexterous). They were all also still sleeping with me when they PT’d so night times were a breeze. I was in tune to their needs and took them if they had to go. They never had accidents, ever. In fact they were ALL night trained before they were day trained.
But Addy is not only not in our bed but not in our room or even on the same floor as us. Frequently she’ll wake up crying, already wet before we can get up there. We aren’t even sure if she woke up from peeing or woke up becuase she had to pee and then couldn’t hold it. It doesn’t help our prospects of dry nights that she is also still having a few bottles in the night. I have a feeling this nighttime thing will end up being our biggest challenge of all. I just don’t even know where to start.

Congrats on the dry day. Annslee Poopy potty trained early (20 months) but the pee pee took a little longer. We let her run around nudey booty and that cured that. The night time thing took longer but only b/c I was chicken. Like you though, she is upstairs and at the time in a crib so it seemed unfair to expect her to let me know. However, once we ran out of pullups she was fine : )

Wow! That is awesome! I have no advice–I went away for the weekend and my mom handled it, M. never had an accident after that. We did keep her in a pull up for about a year–she never seemed to mind peeing in it though.
I need to tackle this with L. and have been a huge procrastinator.
I really hope you get some kind of breakthrough on sleep–I can only imagine how exhausting it is!

With all my kids (except Tank Boy who hasn’t made it through too many nights dry yet, but he’s just getting the day thing down) I found that once they were really truly potty trained during the day, the night thing eventually just took care of itself. So we just did underwear during the day and diapers or pull ups at night until the night time wetting stopped. I suppose the night time bottles will have to go before it all works itself out, though. So I guess I actually have no good advice. :0)

YAY Addy!
Avery is 3.5 and is STILL in pull ups at night. I gave up and now I am just waiting to try again.

Kids are so different on potty training…it always interests me. My second child was trained daytime before her sister a eyar older than her. The oldest was about 4 when she was all the way safe. The youngest a bit after 4. The twins I think are going to be earlier at it. Partly because they prefer to go when we change them. They will poo a little in their diaper, throw all kind of fit over it, and then finish as soon as we open them up to change. Not a bad deal really as we can flush it and the diaper pail doesn’t get as rank as it did with the older two (especially once the y reached 2 or 3 for the oldest…ugh!) I look to start training them in about 6 months or as soon as they even act interested…diapers aren’t cheap, especially times 2!

wow - Addy is amazing and so cute. My twin sons ate 15 months and no where near TT. I am impressed but I think in summer we wil get lots of nudy time to practice. We use cloth so I hoping it will be easier.
