The Girl Of 1000 Bikes

Thanks to all who recommended pedal bikes to me the other day. We ended up going with this tiny little Radio Flyer that looks like a clown bike! It won’t last her long but it was the only bike that she could both reach the ground and the pedals, so it won.

Laurie turned me on to this cool new concept called the walking bike. It is aimed at kids 2-5 so that they can learn to balance a bike before they are ready for a Big Kid Bike and, in theory, avoid the whole training wheels thing that I so very much hate. I am not going to get the ridiculously expensive but utterly cute LikeABike but I am going to probably get Addison the Skuut or the Target knock-off if I can find a good deal on ebay (I’m pretty sure they don’t sell them in the stores anymore). I think she would really like it and I even think Noah could benefit from it. The idea of a walking bike makes so much sense to me. This is one of the ways I’ve always taught my kids to learn to ride a bike - just push along with their feet to learn to balance first and THEN pedal away. Seems a lot less traumatic than the old run-behind-them-until-they-fall method! haha.

Back to the subject at hand. Addy LOVES her bikes. In fact, she-who-loves-what-isn’t-hers loves EVERYONE’S bikes. Today, I braved the heat (ugh, when will it end?!?!) to let Addy try out her new bike only to discover that her old helmet is really too small. Man, her head has GROWN! haha.

practicing

After her initial practice pedaling and ditching the helmet, she switched up for her regular can’t-reach-the-pedals bike:

And then the almost-too-small Radio Flyer:

Off roadin'

She’s actually really good at the bikes. She can steer, she can almost pedal. She LOVES them.

But ultimately she said “Screw it” and took over the outdoor activities by stealing everyone else’s equipment. First Dalton’s scooter, which I can all but guarantee she will be able to use alone by the time she is 2:

She had to use the scooter

And then, by far her favorite, Noah’s bike:

Things quickly went downhill from there. What was I saying about Sibling Love?! haha Oh well, at least she loves her Daddy!

kisses

She looked too little in the other pictures to be writing a bike. Wow, she fits those like a glove.

These photos are some of your best, I think. I love them. I also love Addy’s little red dress. I think all our Asian beauties look simply delicious in red!

I was actually working with Petunia today on getting her to learn to push herself along by using her feet when sitting on one of her ride-on toys. Ummm, no luck yet. Maybe I should show her Addy’s photos for inspiration!
