Where do you find the time?

That was the resounding response to my last blog entry. Four days ago. That’s where I find the time! haha

Seriously if there were one thing I could change about myself (and believe me, there are many more than one but if I *had* to narrow it down to one) it would be inability to complete a project. I’m notorious for doing something half-way and then stalling out, getting distracted, changing directions.  I have this half-knitted digestive system sitting in a box in my room, a half-knitted rain cloud from this blog post, I still have not finished up the details on my playhouse we built last month (hence the lack of pictures but boy is it CUTE complete with Pottery Barn-style gingham curtains! eek!).  Or, like, say NaBloPoMo. I just simply stall out.

And I am busy. But I also need projects as a distraction from the regular busyness of life. I need things to do to keep my creative side busy while Addison watches the 1001st episode of Doodlebops. I like being creative, it makes me happy. So I try to make time for things that make me happy, even if I never finish the project.

BUT!

I *will* finish these Christmas projects. I will. I have already embroidered all 25 envelopes. I just need to attach buttons and string them up. The cute little 12 Days of Christmas stockings will take a grand total of a half hour start to finish. I. Will. Finish.  I know, who am I trying to convince, right?!

Well all of that to say that I am not on top of things. I just finally did my Thanksgiving shopping today. Which, by the way, not a bad idea! The stores were jovial and festive and not nearly as busy as usual. Everything was on sale and right on the end caps. So procrastination has its perks. Bonus was that I found roasted chestnuts in a jar when I was SURE that I wouldn’t find them anywhere in Texas.  Yahoo!

Meanwhile here are the Top 10 things I’ve been doing that have kept me from finishing projects:

  1. Hammering out our 2008 Budget (no medication is strong enough to make this tolerable, easy or fun)
  2. Supervising Addison’s new-found gymnastic prowess. This week she mastered jumping and wants to do her famous  seat-drop (where you jump from both feet onto your butt with legs out in front of you - see this pic) anywhere including the hard floor. I am surprised her butt isn’t totally bruised from forgetting to find a soft surface. Today she pulled the pillow off the couch for a little padding which led to success the first time but failure when she miscalculated the second. ouch. But worse…. I found her doing handstands (HAND stands) up against the wall and tonight she tried to do a front handspring after watching Teegan and when she failed, she tried her hand at - seriously - a back bend (or “bridge down”). Many times. We literally could not leave her side because I was afraid she would try it alone and break her neck. To say she is “driven” to learn gymnastics is an understatement.
  3. Christmas shopping. Makes me happy but keeps me out of the house which means I get nothing done at home. But boy is it fun!
  4. Clothes shopping. It’s fall, no one fits anything anymore. Who told the kids they could grow? Old Navy loves me right about now.
  5. Planning for Black Friday. Yes, it’s true, I am one of them. Because I love shopping and I love crowds and I love a good deal and the combination of the three makes getting up at 4am worthwhile. Planning for Black Friday is no small undertaking. It involves scouring this site and picking out where to go and in what order in order to maximize my chances of success. I”m always at least 75% successful but this year there is very little I want.
  6. Watching Dr. Phil. OMG, what is up with that sociopath liar dude? If you aren’t watching, don’t. Some scary shit, right there.
  7. Watching Oprah’s Favorite Things. Sigh. I love free stuff.
  8. Listening to my two older kids’ countless renditions of this creepy as all get-out emo song. They promise to do a big performance for me on Christmas and I promise to video tape it and Youtube it.
  9. Sweat. And sweat and sweat. Our A/C has been out for days and it was about 90 degrees in here, no breeze, hot as hell outside. So humid you feel dirty as soon as you step out of the shower. Honestly it was intolerable. I don’t know how any of us slept - the ceiling fans only made a slight dent. It was finally fixed this afternoon just in time for it to drop to 50 degrees tomorrow and stay super cold all week. Better late than never. Tony talked about turning on the heat tonight but I refuse - that AC will run all night even if we all freeze to death! haha
  10. Going off starbucks cold turkey. Goodbye Iced Venti Chai, I loved you so. Goodbye Venti Black Iced Tea Lemonade with Classic Sweetener, you were good to me. I miss you.

UGH! Black Friday, huh… Good for you girl, I couldn’t do it, hate the crowds, hate the rude (you have to admit there are some people you would just love to give a social beatdown to) people. If anything I have found better deals online than the store deals this year anyway…and my fave-no crowds!

      BTW, Happy Thanksgiving!

#10, are you crazy? I’ve tried to give up the sweet nectar of Starbucks/Dutch Bros, but have been very unsuccessful. Good luck to ya!

And that guy on Dr. Phil is totally creepy! But I’m pretty sure that his wife is just as weird. After today’s show I’m fully convinced that she wanted to do the whole r*pe thing with him after hearing his confession….he just looked too surprised when she said it was only his idea.

You are a braver woman than I am to tackle Black Friday (and manage to enjoy it!), and giving up on Starbucks on top of that! :)

Thank goodness I now know your secret. Although when I think about everything you have going on with the kids, homeschooling, etc., I’m still surprised that you get things even partially done! LOL.

Good luck on all the things on your To Do list, and happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
