Woke Up At 5am and Lived to Tell About It
I was SO excited about Black Friday that I could not sleep last night! How pathetic is that? I didn’t go to bed until 1:30am and then the alarm rang at 5am and I ALMOST missed it because my extremely tired husband subconsciously hit snooze before it woke me up. Man, that would have been the end of our marriage! haha
So I hit Target first and let me just say that was the longest line I have EVER seen in my life. I almost bailed a few times because I decided early on that I picked the WRONG Target. There were some other more off the beaten path stores I could have picked and I later found out that they had no real lines. It’s all about strategy. But anyway - the line wrapped across the entire front of the store, around the side and all the way to the back and then some when I got in line and there was a steady stream of people rushing in behind me….so many in fact that when I finally got in the store there were STILL people as far back as I could see, wrapped around the store outside in line behind me.
After Target, I hit up Walmart, Toys R Us and Target again (for a return).
Mission successful - I got everything on my list except one thing that no one seemed to have gotten in stock even though it was in the ad. At 9Am I wanted to stop for lunch but I guess they don’t serve lunch at 9am! haha. I came home and got some more shopping done online, got that final item and called it a day.
I passed out some time around 2pm and slept until 6pm! I don’t know how you people who actually get up routinely at 5am actually function in life. So you can add that to the “how do you do it” post - I get a lot of sleep!!!
I had hoped to do a lot of cleaning and some decorating for Christmas today. We made little progress. I did finish going through all the kids fall clothes now that its suddenly Cold In Texas (you read that right!!! Woohoo!! I actually wore a coat this morning even if it was only for an hour at 6am!) and that was a big job. But the house looks like a hurricane hit it and I can’t even imagine decorating until we do some big time cleaning and reorganizing. So that’s what my weekend will look like.
I wish I had some witty or exciting stories to tell about my fun day out shopping. I don’t. I felt really sick - like food poisoning or stomach flu - all morning. I kept envisioning how exactly I would handle the sudden need to vomit while standing in The Longest Line In The World at Target. That would have made for an exciting blog post. Oh well - maybe next year!
And in line with that, my poor babies are sick. Addison and Noah both have their first colds of the season. Hopefully they will pass without turning into bronchitis or ear infections. Hopefully the rest of us will not get sick. But when you spend your day wiping snot 100 times an hour, it seems rather unlikely.
Happy Black Friday, everyone!

I’m jealous! I talked to Nicole and she made out at the stores too today. This was the first year we haven’t done the 4 am routine. One year we were on the news at Toys-R-US because we were there so early for the 4 am sale. It totally sucked because my kids saw us and saw what we bought! We laugh at it now but it stunk then!

It’s sick, just sick. I don’t know how you crazy shoppers do it. It’s like worse than my worst nightmare. But my mom was there at 4am, because she’s hard core like that too! Hopefully she got my kids some cute stuff - hahaha!!
We have the occassional 5am wake-ups with Jackson, but you get used to it after awhile. It’s not as bad as my months on surgery when I’d have to be at the hospital at 4:45am and I didn’t get home until 7pm, then had to study until 11pm. That was just pure misery. THOSE people (surgeons) are the real crazies!
I hope you guys stay healthy over there!

Okay, we ventured out at 6pm to Toys r us and picked up one thing we wanted to get for Sweetpea and her cousin - they had tons!!! I was happy I didn’t have to get up at 5am for it or beat the crowds, that is way too crazy for me. Glad you got what you ventured out for.

Reading your last couple of posts makes me feel very lame-o with my pitiful shopping and my complete lack of crafts….
I don’t understand where you get the energy….
How are the stockings coming?

We went to target today, does that count. I bought not a single christmas gift though.
I did buy a few things online. Stockings count.
We were on a plane on friday. Which is much better than shopping since we beat the crowds traveling.
I did used to go out and I miss it.
and a 4 hour nap sounds soo nice!

Oh I feel your pain! I went out with my MIL on Black Friday. I was up at 3:30am to get to her house before 5. She was looking for a GPS system for my FIL and so we just HAD to be at Best Buy and Circuit City early. Circuit City was so busy that the police were standing at the doors and not letting anyone else in. Best Buy was just as bad. There was a line 150 people long waiting for GPS’s. It was NUTS. Needless to say, MIL did NOT score one of the $120 GPSs. LOL I got some great deals though! Thankfully though, after the craziness of Circuit City, Best Buy and Staples, none of the other stores we went into had super huge lines. I got wicked good deals at The Children’s Place, Penny’s, Yankee Candle, Bath & Body Works and Target! And I managed to get 99% of my shopping done!!

You are CRAZY! But I love you
Shopping on an ordinary day gives me hives and panic attacks. Shopping on Black Friday would just kill me!
