Christmas Countdown: Day 22 Family Tradition

In honor of the weather in much of the country right now, today’s family tradition is:

go sledding or ice skating

Even here in Houston, there are opportunities for both. A few weeks ago a local sledding hill was erected. It wasn’t huge, it wasn’t really “snow” but more like ice. nov-541.jpgBut it sure looked fun! And even here in the south there are countless all-year and seasonal ice rinks to enjoy. So dig around and see what you can find, even if you aren’t’ in a snowy part of the country.

But with the big storms hitting the Midwest right now, it is time to make lemonade from lemons, get out the sleds and hit the slopes. The memories will be priceless!

How old is old enough to go sledding or ice skating? We took all our babies sledding in our laps practically from birth. Of course we stuck to small hills or just pulled them around in those baby sleds. As for ice skating, we started all of our kids on skates at around 18 months old. Of course we had to go onto the ice with them and we made them wear helmets but they all absolutely loved skating! A lot of ice rinks allow strollers onto the ice for even younger babies and some also have chairs or other bars that kids can push around when they are just learning. I can’t wait to take Addison this winter!
