20 Months
Addison turned 20 months old today. Something about counting months after 20 that feels way too close to 2 year old. Sigh. Babyhood seems so far behind now. We’ve known Addy-the-toddler longer than we knew Addy-the-baby. It had to happen eventually, I guess!
Addy’s on her second cold of the month so I don’t even have great pics to post to mark this day. But her colds haven’t kept her down!
So the big changes this month are:
- just a few days ago she very suddenly and consciously started calling us Mommy and Daddy. Mama and Dada are no longer. Tony thinks its adorable, I think its so sad! I liked being Mama. Mommy is so….old. Next week she’ll probably graduate to “Mom”. Sigh.
- a few days ago a new tooth broke through. So now she has 4 molars, 4 top and 4 bottom teeth and then the new top eye tooth. I think it is around now that we sort of stop looking for new teeth and counting them.
- The girl grew again. Honestly, its freaking me out a little. She’s ginormous! She’s still 23.5 lbs - a fact I know to be true about a dozen times a day because even though she has no concept of weight or numbers, she insists on stepping on the scale every single time she goes potty. But she’s grown another inch and her feet grew another size and she’s officially back into a bad spot with pants….too tall and skinny for anything to fit her right. Jeans aren’t very comfy and leggings are way too short or big in the waist. So dresses it is. 2T and size 6 shoes. Sob.
- She went to her first movie, just yesterday. Alvin & The Chipmunks because its the only thing we figured might hold her attention. She did *ok* but I won’t be doing it alone any time soon. She wasn’t really interested in the movie a lot of the time, wasn’t interested in going to sleep or relaxing. She was mad we didn’t buy snacks (every single person seated around us had them!). She had to go potty twice before previews even started. You get the drift. We didn’t have to leave or shush her too many times but she didn’t exactly enjoy it either.
- She got her first haircut, which I posted about. It was no big deal, just enough to save really. But it cleaned up her uneven bits a little.
- She started saying an emphatic “YES!” which includes a large hop! haha. Its so funny and sooo cute. She’s also into singing and loves talking and singing into microphones. She’s talking like crazy but still throws new words or phrases at us that are baffling - like her new “Ma Mon” phrase which actually means “Is that funny?” which she says whenever anyone is laughing. She’s also really into the whole responsive type thing - like following directions at gymnastics, playing along with a Dora episode and playing her new Baby Leaps games. Very cute. Especially when she’s doing it in Spanish. She loves to say ‘abre’ which I think she says more clearly than ‘open’. Gotta love Dora!
- She is SUPER loving and huggy lately. She is constantly asking for hugs and giving out hugs and kissing to her brothers and us ‘rents. She loves to be loving! Noah is her current favorite though - he gets her hugs and kissing many times a day. Especially when he is feeling sad or mad - she is always there to make him giggle with her request for hugs. The other day Noah told me that Addison was his best friend. Love it!
So that’s 20 months! I swear I just love the whole second year. I’m going to be so sad to see it go for good in 4 more months.

They grow up so fast! How can it all be sad and joyful at the same time?
