On NYDay we have lentil/sausage soup from Barefoot Contessa for good luck--sausage b/c it is round, lentils sort of like the black eyed pea thing. So they have had time to edit things out, but I have not watched the ball drop in at least five years, not since law school so you should probably get info from someone who has seen it in the last five years!
