Talking With Addy-Mai
Addy is learning to talk in a way that her brothers never did. She is very conscious and intentionally about every word that she says. While most kids sort of dive into talking in bursts, Addy does it at a very steady pace. You can literally hear every speech milestone as she hits them. With my boys, I could never exactly tell when they went from 1 to 2 to 3 word sentences, when they added in pronouns, etc. With Addy, she may as well be writing a textbook on how to learn the English Language.
Right now her new “thing” is 3 word sentences. She didn’t just learn to string words together, she intentionally works on finding a third word to add to every sentence. It is so funny.
So right now she’s jumping off various things in our livingroom and narrating: “I jumping. High. I jumping. Books. I jumping. Pillow. I jumping. Lilo.”. She is so proud of her narrative.
With the newly expanding communication skills, she is also learning to apply them in new ways. She will now tattle and argue! Hee. Its cute, admit it. She frequently tattles on the cats for various wrong-doings. And today when I wanted to bring her into the bathroom while I showered, she very stubbornly said “No. I stay!” and then ran off to a toy she never uses and said “I playing!” Mmhmm. She is so very two!
She has a phrase she says “I hugging” and it was sweet but I finally realized today that it actually means “I love this thing so much”. She will “hugging” lots of things that aren’t really huggable - like the little cute basketball logo on Daddy’s Pistons jersey who she had to hug over and over one day. Or a certain picture in a book. Today while I showered, I watched her rummage through all my bathroom drawers and cabinets, looking everything over item by item. Finally she pulled out a specific tiny bottle of perfume and told me “I hugging” and hugged and hugged that little bottle before putting it away. I told her she could keep it (since its about 2oz of perfume that I got 8 years ago!! shows how often I use that stuff!) and she about died of happiness!!! Until she found the lavender nighttime lotion we keep on her bathtub and had to hug that too. And she is definitely particular about what and who she hugs - she isn’t an equal opportunist! She hugs one of our cats but not our dog or other cats. She hugs only a select few toys. But boy did she hug my Vitamin Water I had with lunch (and did “cheers” and tried to help me open it….all in a desperate attempt to get me to trade drinks with her! heehee). She is so passionate but also picky.
And with that I’ll leave you with the video of the day in which Addy shows off her new jumping prowess (and her inability to count! haha). If you stick around to the end, you can see her go off on our dog who was trying to sneak table scraps (aka Addy’s lunch). I swear she cracks me up.

I can’t wait for Lucy to start saying sentences. I love the video and she is cute as ever. Lucy learned how to somersault about a week ago on her own and I swear she does it all day long now. Our little gymnasts!

She is a RIOT! I’m so impressed with her jumping ability - Jackson still does the fake jump - where his feet appear to be glued to the floor.
