Lazing
Its Memorial Day Evening. I could be packing (yes we are heading off on another road trip tomorrow morning, this time not so far away) but that would be no fun. So I’m blogging instead.
I promised Noah that I’d swim with him today, first thing. We got in the pool this morning and didn’t get out for SIX hours. I’m burnt to a crisp. I did use sunscreen but probably too late and when you are already wet it just sort of rolls off you. Dumb me. But it was so much fun. Noah mastered the underwater summersault and even did a few doubles. He mastered floating and swimming on his back. He practiced some diving. He mastered the cannonball and declared “I will never wear a lifejacket again. This is SO much more fun!”.

And Addison made some great strides too. Because it was morning when we went in the pool, it was still SUPER sunny which required, of course, sunglasses for Miss Mai. Who knew they also kept out the splashes and were way more comfortable than goggles! yay! She floated and swam around on foam noodles, alone. And she agreed to wear the arm floaties and swim around on her own and even jumped into the water a few times. She is growing to really REALLY love the water. No good pictures since I was the one in the water with her this time.
But the biggest news of the day is that I got my stubborn anxiety-ridden dog to put her paws on the top step in our pool and STAY there. I could tell she was really LOVING the cool down from the water and after a few minutes, when I let her go, she came back on her own and put all four paws in the water on her own a few different times! I know that by the end of summer we’ll make her a swimming dog yet! She’s a Golden Retriever, after all, she just needs to get in touch with her roots. It felt like a very big step, though, since she’d just shake with fear and refuse to even come CLOSE to the water’s edge, previously.

{baby steps}
We had a yummy lunch, outside, of dark chocolate peanut butter and banana sandwiches and raspberry chipolte salsa with chips and, of course, watermelon. Yumm. My girl loves watermelon SO much, but only from the rind. She won’t eat melon balls anymore. Problem is, watermelon is very very messy. My girl gets juice on every square inch of her body! And then she looked up at my camera and stuck her hand out and smeared watermelon juice all over my lens. Super.

We even shared our holiday treats with Lilo.

After naptime, we headed to a BBQ where we hung out with friends and the kids all played. Good times, good times!
Happy Memorial Day to everyone. I hope you all had lovely weather, great food and much fun with family and friends.

What a perfect day! I’m coveting your backyard pool. Yeah, I know I had a chance to buy a house with a pool, don’t rub it in!
Have a great road trip!!

Oh, I’m missing summer already, our winter has hit here. The mornings are crispy cold. Of course this *is* Africa, so we really don’t know what real cold is like, but still, the houses here aren’t centrally heated, or very well insulated at all, so you get out of bed and unless you have a heater blasting nearby, you’re breathing ’smoke’.
I miss those lazy summer days by the pool. Oh yes, I also wanted to tell you that our labrador retriever, when we first moved here, didn’t want to go near the pool, and actually fell in the first day we were here. Now she takes these HUGE leaps in, like a flying blonde thing, and all because we started tossing a ball in and she just went for it. She’s now in the pool even in the winter because she-can’t-resist-chasing-the-ball. It’s great exercise for her too. I’m sure your retriever will soon be splashing alongside!

No thoughts of swimming here…it got cold again! We came back from Florida to high 40’s!! Crazy Colorado.
So does this mean you caved and got peanut butter that doesn’t separate into the oil layer and the “other?” If so, congrats on winning the peanut butter battle Tony!!

ha - this most definitely does not count as peanut butter! That’s a battle I refuse to lose! Poor Tony! Haha
