Small Town USA
It is totally fun to drive through mid-Texas because it is so rural and just so, well, Texas. On our way to Austin there were all these awesome signs and sights I so wanted to pull over and take pictures of but we were on a time schedule and couldn’t stop. Of course it was a lot more difficult finding the same awesome sights on the way home, for some reason, but I got a few pictures to share with you:

Here we have a very appetizing meat market. Is it me or does this look like a steaming pile of shit? Oddly there are so many meat markets like this right in the middle of nowhere. Must be all the cows. This was one of the least appetizing, though

Next we have the awesomeness that is Frappuccinos, Smoothies and Chinese Food. Why not, right?!
And finally, my all-time favorite…. drum roll please……
Because you never know when you might crave a crueller with a side of clams!

We drove 290 west this past weekend and love the names of the little towns. DH and I decided we now needed to live in Dripping Springs, TX (or Drippin Springs as I am sure it is said by the locals :))

I really, really LOVE stuff like this. It’s the small things in life that amuse me, I suppose. My top two favorites that I’ve personally seen are…
#2… In Andover, a little town in Vermont, there is a used book store called “Over Andover Used Books.”
And coming in at #1 from Baton Rouge, LA is… are you ready?…
Jeff and Jessie’s Full Gospel Beauty Salon

I saw some pretty interesting stuff on a cross country trip of the USA back in 1999. Teeny tiny towns in the middle of nowhere, with really interesting stuff like you’ve posted here. The weirdest was this one horse town in remote Montana, they must have had like 5 taxidermy stores. 5? It’s *that* big an industry in *that* town that they need 5!?

Donuts and Seafood? I want to puke. I still love the fact that my town has an autobody/shoe repair shop. Someday I’ll figure out a way to get a picture of it without starting the small town gossip mill working overtime about “those strange new folks”.

I love all the signs but I am pretty sure that I would not eat at a place with donuts and seafood in the same place! Now I want to visit TX myself!

A town I used to work in has a Video Renta/Tanning Salon. Video equipment and naked tanners..seems like a recipe for disaster.

Hilarious! I love the sign with the steaming pile of shit. And yes, you’re right - that’s exactly what it looks like. Gross!
