Dear Teegan,

Probably the last thing you want to do today, my middle son, is to hang around the house watching your birth video that I recently rediscovered. No matter how tempted I might be, I won’t make you. You are way too old, too cool and too busy for such business. I promise I won’t even post it on my blog

It’s true, it’s that time of year again. Does it go as fast for you as it does for me? I swear I was just sitting here typing up your birthday message a few months ago. How did ‘a few’ turn into 12? How did 12 months turn into 11 years?

My Teegan, you make me laugh way too often, even when I shouldn’t be laughing. You make me smile when I’m sad. You remind me to lighten up - there is a pun around every corner and a joke bursting at every seam.

You are so loving. What is it about your nature that draws all the little babies in, hook line and sinker? They don’t even get your jokes and they can’t love your stanky gas!! Maybe it’s because you stop what you’re doing and give them attention. You look them in the eye and treat them like they are the center of your world - something even us parents forget to do, all too often.

This year you taught me that you are no quitter! You’ve struggled through frustration in several areas and I’ve given you an out and instead of taking it, you’ve steamrolled ahead. This year more than any other it is clear that you can do whatever you really want to do. You are super smart, very athletic, handsome and charming. You have the world wrapped around your little finger.

My worldy son, your interest in issues bigger than you makes me happy and proud. You want to understand concepts that I don’t yet understand - like the economy! You decide you want to learn something and you learn it. You have such confidence and determination. You will go far with traits like that.

You are a good friend. The quiet friend. You aren’t assuming. You are there when your friends need you. You don’t hurt feelings. You are fair and kind of thoughtful. You are the same way as a brother. You are the one who is most likely to cave when you get in an argument with your brothers. And you would never dream of arguing with your sister - she is the Top of the World in your eye.

I love you, my sweet, strong, smart, beautiful Teegan. Happy 11 years.
