2007: A Year In Review

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

I did this meme last year and I encourage you to do it this year too. Its easy and fun.

The way it works is you take the first sentence (or sentences) from the first post in each month over the last year and compile them for an overview of your 2007.

  • Well I thought I’d start off a new year with a new blog and family homepage.
  • Today, bright and early (well - bright and early for ME), my hubster headed out of town to pursue the American Dream (a job interview), leaving me all alone to deal with my conflicting feelings toward being all alone.
  • Yesterday Addy-Mai turned 10 months old and today is the 4 month anniversary from her G&R, the day we met her, held her, became her parents by law and not just in heart.
  • Today we ‘opened’ our pool.
  • When we moved, I promised Teegan that we’d buy him a kitten.
  • I can not stop buying bathing suits.
  • Would you put any price on physical fitness? Like $200 *per kid* for a few short weeks of recreational soccer?
  • We are on our way to rip-roaring Tulsa!! Our last stop on Road Trip 2007.
  • It’s another holiday weekend - the big one marking the end of summer. For us Labor Day marks the last day of slacking off before we really crack down and pull out the books.
  • I think we had our first 100% dry day! There were no accidents and although we slapped on a diaper for the nap & a trip out for dinner, it appears as if the diaper may have been dry after the nap & the dinner too.
  • Today is the day, one year ago, that we became Addison’s family.
  • The Little Partners Learning Tower - retails for around $170 including shipping

So what did your 2007 look like?

Can I say I won NaBloPloMo anyway?

I didn’t blog daily but I *did* blog 35 posts in November. So is it cheating for me to display my “30 posts in 30 days” badge on my blog?!

The Spirit of Christmas

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Alright all you grinchy-mcGrinches, hang onto your seats.

Peppermint StarI finished, stuffed and hung my Advent calendar (pattern here) last night with 2.5 days to spare, thankyouverymuch. I even embroidered every single number on them, despite my original claim that there was no way I was doing that. It was such a simple project and was really relaxing. I think they turned out great. I decided to hang them around the roof of the kids’ new playhouse that has never before been revealed to you all. So here it is, in bits and pieces. I still have to paint the porch rails and window trim but the address is up, the mailbox is hung (and full of mail) , the cute Pottery Barn Look-Alike curtains are sewn and hung, the play kitchen has been relocated inside and oh my gosh does my baby girl LOVE this house!!!
Advent Calendar on Playhouse
I have not started my 12 Days of Christmas stockings yet but they will be very quick and easy to do and don’t need to be done for, well, 13 more days.

Jena gave me a Spirit of Christmas award, which was so sweet. This award is for those who talk about and show the spirit of Christmas in their blogs.

Advent Calendar

What is the Spirit of Christmas you ask?

Quite simply it is those that have a generous and giving nature. Those who care about others. Those who have a kind word to say or a broad shoulder to lean on in the times that others need that. Those who display the “Spirit of Christmas”.

Jena tagged a lot of Spirit-y types already but I pass this award on to:

MrsBroccoliGuy who has not said a word about Christmas but lives Christmas Spirit every day in how she conducts herself and moves through life.

Kelly becuase there is NO ONE who has more Christmas Spirit than Kelly, whose house looks like it came out of a magazine (a really good magazine!). Plus Kelly has always been a dear friend who has offered her shoulder to me more times than I can count for as long as I’ve had a blog!

Melissa for always being there for me, with her own powerful brand of spirituality that always inspires me to be a better person and her shoulder whenever I need it.

Nicole who is the only person I know that simply does not celebrate Christmas, because. Period. I love that about her, I think its so cool and all non-conformist :-) But I also think its cool that they still do a little something-something for their kids, recognizing that kids like conformity :-P Nicole is so cool, I wanna be her when I grow up. And it totally sucks that she doesn’t believe in Santa because if she did, I bet he’d bring her a new camera to replace the one she traded in for her baby, Lola!

There are a bunch of other people I’d tag that don’t have blogs. Why don’t you people have blogs? Harrumph.

And in other Christmas-y news….not only am I going to give you a daily Advent Family Activity, I’m also going to share with you my very very favorite toys - one each day - with reviews. I think its my way of justifying my insane toy collection. So humor me and come visit ok? I might have failed at NaBloPoMo but I won’t fail at Advent for goodness sake!

We don’t yet have a tree up, can you believe that? This weekend for sure. But we have started watching all the Christmas specials. I LOVE the Christmas shows. A few nights ago was Charlie Brown Christmas. Since you might recall that Addison is a huge Snoopy fan, this was very exciting news. Except, as it turns out, Snoopy does not do a whole lot of appearances in this one. The result is Addison screaming “Boppy, Dora, Boppy, Dora” at the screen the entire time in an effort to bully someone into giving in and turning on Doodlebops or Dora instead. Good times.

So Ho-ho-ho and all that holiday goodness. Listen, if you can’t beat em, join em! So join me!
