Theme Thursday: Time

8 years.

That’s how long I’ve had a digital camera. Back in the day, my camera recorded to discs, not a memory stick. And it filled up pretty quick, was pretty grainy and pretty useless. I only had two little boys back then who were the stars of all the pictures.

2000

Now they are always on the go, rarely in the same picture together. They are huge, practically grown. Where does the time go?!?!

Even though I’m a digital camera old-timer, I didn’t have ANY interest in photography until summer 2006 when I moved to this beautiful house on a lake with amazing sunsets and hot air balloons that frequently flew past our gorgeous view. It was then that I first asked my friend, Nicole, to explain to me how to make pictures blurry in the background. I couldn’t really do it with my camera at the time but a few months later we replaced it and a few months after that we upgraded to the Canon IS S3 which I still adore. To say I’ve been learning at a snails pace since then would be probably an exaggeration. But I HAVE been learning.

My husband bought me my first DSLR, my Nikon D40x, last year in November on my half-birthday :) and we got Photoshop shortly afterward. He got me a new lens and a flash for Christmas. It took me a few months to get up the nerve to switch to the new lens and I’m still not sure I love it. I haven’t even tried the flash yet. So my learning curve is, well, slow. But I’ll get there, eventually!

And just because I’ve always wanted a reason to post this photo:

I love your pictures. You’ve inspired me to use photoshop more often instead of taking the lazy way out. :)

Oh my, look at the differences in your boys! They are definitely handsome young men. I love that second shot of them as they are now. Thanks for sharing your timeline with digital photography, too. It can be a slow process, because it does take time to figure out everything. That’s okay though, as long as you are enjoying it. :)

I am impressed that you were able to dig out that first photo. You must be very organized. I am doing good to find photos I took a year ago. I love the sun dial. Very appropriate!

LOVE that picture of the boys grown up. It looks like they are so clase and playful with eachother.

Funny about the digital timeline. The difference n the pics are amazing.

What GREAT photos…I so completely LOVE the second shot of the boys! The photo conveys what characters they MUST be! I enjoyed reading about your photography progress as well. I still have a point and shoot, and I am longing for a DSLR, at least I think I am…I just know I want something that will help me take decent photos! Anyway, what a wonderful post, and photos.

I love both shots of the boys - how grown up they have gotten! But the sundial shot is beautiful — and so perfect for this week’s theme!

Wonderful picture of a sundial and the pictures of the boys are great too. That’s cool your first was a DSLR and now you like taking pictures with it. ;)

Thanks for the nice comment on my cactus post.

That’s funny…I begged for the DSLR so I could blur the backgrounds too! I’m jealous that you have the bigger lens and a bounce flash! That’s what I’ll be asking for for my bday in Dec. Well the lens anyway…
